"I loved her, but she deserved it!"/ He stabbed his wife, an Albanian man is sentenced to life in prison! The shocking testimony of their daughter and the victim's brother: He beat her all the time

The Athens Court has sentenced 52-year-old Albanian Eduard Danaj to life imprisonment, who was found guilty of the murder of his wife, Enkelejda Danaj, an event that occurred on May 16, 2024 in the Greek capital.
In addition to life imprisonment, he was also sentenced to 5 years in prison for illegal possession and use of weapons, as well as a fine of 5,000 euros.
During the reading of the unanimous verdict, the presiding judge emphasized: " The murder is an act accepted by the defendant and was committed with particular violence and cruelty. The knife was stuck in the victim's stomach."
He added that the defendant is a violent and irresponsible person, to the point that he could not even remember the birth dates of his children, a fact that is unacceptable.
The court also confirmed that the murder was premeditated, as the defendant wore a hat, took a taxi and checked into a hotel after the crime. When he was arrested, he told the police: “He deserved it.”
The motivation was extreme jealousy and hatred, the court president emphasized, rejecting the defendant's requests to change the charges.
According to the investigation file, on May 16, 2024, at around 6 a.m., the defendant went to the victim's house, who was leaving for work. He attacked her and inflicted over 14 stab wounds on her, causing her instant death.
At the beginning of the trial, the 22-year-old daughter of the victim and the attacker testified. She never once looked at her father and said he had never regretted his gruesome murder.
The girl said that her father only apologized once, but then he began to insult her mother and told her that he would kill her and that they would be together in life or death.
"We spoke once. He apologized to me, but then he started cursing my mother. He said I will kill you, we will be together in life or death, We always had tension at home, my father was violent towards my mother.
"He beat her all the time. I remember incidents like that throughout my childhood. He was jealous and made excuses. I was the kid who knew at school that his father was beating his mother. My mother would take us to school and she would have scratches on her neck ," the victim's daughter said in her testimony.
She also mentioned the period when her father was unemployed and drank heavily, which caused constant clashes. She said that after her parents separated, her father left for Albania and during this time he would call her and insult her, telling her that she supported her mother. According to her, he had never accepted the separation.
Ai i tha asaj “Do të të vras, do të jemi bashkë në jetë a në vdekje”. Ky ishte arsyetimi i tij…”, rrëfen 22-vjeçarja.
“Ai e konsideronte motrën time pronën e tij gjithë jetën. Gjithmonë kishte grindje. Njëherë ia futi kokën në gëlqere…”, tha dëshmitari.
Gjykatësi: A jetonit pranë motrës suaj?
Victim's brother: Yes, all my life. I always lived near her for protection and for certain periods I would hear noises in their house. I would go see her with a knife and the children hiding behind the sofas. This happened all the time.
Continuing, the witness referred to the defendant's absence from his family, when he was separated from his sister and was in Albania.
"For 4 to 5 years they had no contact, he was in Albania. In 2017 they told my sister to give the children a second chance. Then they started their marriage again and got to where they are now. This man was a bad man his whole life. He didn't want to see anyone move forward. It's not the drinking that's to blame. He had told my sister many times that 'if we get divorced, I'll kill you,'" he confessed.
Meanwhile, in his defense, the defendant said that he had known the victim when she was 16 years old and they had gotten married in Albania in 1999. He said that he loved her very much, but had problems with alcohol and said that he had never hit her.
He claimed that the murder occurred after an argument about his wife's extramarital affair and that he did not remember what he had done, claiming that he had been under the influence of alcohol.
"I loved her very much, but we fought, I drank. I didn't hit her. She always wanted to leave, I didn't let her," he even claimed, and then said that the 40-year-old had asked him to leave the house because he drank.
Judge : What exactly happened between you on the way?
Defendant : In 2012 we had verbal arguments. Her siblings would come to the house, we would fight and find each other again…
Judge: A lot of arguing…
Defendant: I loved her very much. In 2012 she told me to divorce her. The only thing I had was that I drank, drank beer and tsipouro. I didn't cross the line. I left the house.
The prosecutor in the case stressed that the defendant was fully conscious during the murder and that he had stabbed the victim multiple times, not being in an accelerated emotional state, as he claimed. According to her, the cause was jealousy after seeing the victim with another man on the internet.
The court decided to convict the 52-year-old on all charges, making clear the high risk he posed to victims of domestic violence.
