On Friday 15 November he would have finished his summer season as gardener at the Union Lido campsite in Ca' di Valle. He could then leave to join his mother and father in Malisheva, Kosovo. But his long-awaited return home, where he had not set foot for a year, was not possible, as he died in an accident. This is the story of the young man from Kosovo, Rilind Thaçi.
On the night between Wednesday and Thursday, as he was returning from Jesolo, in the Venice area, the BMV he was traveling in, driven by his 24-year-old cousin, went off the road at a bend just before the Cavallino cemetery and was collided with a pillar right on the passenger side where Rilindi was sitting. The collision was strong and nothing could be done for the 21-year-old. For the cousin who was at the wheel had some injuries and was hospitalized overnight, then this morning, Thursday, he was released from the San Donà hospital.

"He had managed to prepare everything - says the other cousin of Rilind Thaqi, Arbeni - He was now in order with the residence permit, with the workplace, ready to get the driving license and then buy a house for himself in Ca' Savio , as his 24-year-old brother is married and Rilindi was staying with his brother. He had to go and spend Christmas with his parents, who had been here in Cavallino to visit him in January, after the New Year, and were happy because he had found a good job." Rilindi, or Lindi, as everyone called him, had quickly become a favorite on the coast. "He always had a smile on his face. During this period he was really happy. He felt fulfilled and had his life ahead - says another cousin, Dini Pacarizi - When my brother called me at 6 in the morning and told me about the fatal accident, I had to sit down. I couldn't breathe," he declared.
Rilindi together with his cousin "associated" with the BMV had spent the evening in pleasant company. The 21-year-old gardener played five-a-side football in Jesolo almost every weekend with those he had now befriended: it was his great passion. "They went to the fields of Jesolo Paese, on the way to Eraclea near the new Aldi supermarket. He had been here for about a year, but he had already made many acquaintances." The news was also sad for the managers of the Union Lido campsite, who had found a good collaborator in the young man, to the point that he already had the place for the new season that awaited him from January 2025.
The entire Albanian community of Cavallino-Treporti, about a hundred compatriots, is in mourning. The mayor of the municipality, Roberta Nesto, expressed her condolences for her brother Liridon, a hairdresser and barber who met her in Ca' Savio, and for his parents in Kosovo. "He and the cousin involved in the accident were young workers well integrated in the area. I express regret for what happened on behalf of the whole municipality".
