The Greek police revealed the assassination of a 39-year-old man, which fortunately ended without victims, and identified the perpetrator, an Albanian with a serious criminal record.
The Greek prosecutor's office has filed charges against the citizen Geni Cato from Përmeti, currently detained in Greece. The 37-year-old Albanian is accused of trying to kill a 39-year-old while he was in the car with his mother, reports News24.
He will face the charge of attempted murder while he is a defendant with a serious criminal past.
The attempted murder happened last December, specifically on December 8, shortly before 6 am.
Two people with their facial features covered and while traveling on a motorcycle without license plates, approached the truck in which the 39-year-old man and his mother were traveling.
Suddenly the passenger opened fire at the driver and luckily the bullets did not hit him. The security cameras showed that the perpetrators fled in the direction of a certain road while the passenger got off and then jumped over a fence and disappeared.
The driver of the vehicle, driving at high speed, left towards "Iera Odo". The 39-year-old Albanian in a state of shock has not been able to point to any possible perpetrator of the attack on him and that he had no differences with anyone. As he told the police, he tried to follow the perpetrators but failed as they went their separate ways.
The victim's brother, who also owns the truck, testified to the authorities stating that he was probably the target because of a legal dispute he had over a business of his.
In fact, he had been targeted in the past as he was attacked by unknown persons a month ago, exactly on 9.11.2023. The attack has been reported to the police and a preliminary investigation has begun
Authorities identified the suspect from security cameras. He is Geni Cato, 37 years old from Përmeti, a person with a serious criminal record.
His lawyer, Alexandros Papaioannidis, told the Greek media that his client has nothing to do with this particular case.
"There is no DNA that identifies him, nor any other element that "places" him at the scene of the shooting. He does not know the 39-year-old and has no contact with his environment. During the investigation we will expose all the facts"
Cato was arrested in April of this year along with several other Albanians, accused of planting a quantity of explosives in a gas station in Piraeus. Cato was known by the Greek police as a member of the group of murdered Greek "godfathers", Vasilis Grivas and Giorgos Litsa.
In July of this year, another charge was communicated to Cato in the prison of Nafplio where he is. He was accused of being part of a criminal group that imposed fines on businesses, carried out explosions, arson, bodily harm, forgery, theft and drug trafficking.
