Earthquakes in Santorini/IGJEUM: They do not affect Albania, but the entire region has seismic activity

The earthquakes that have been hitting Santorini in Greece for more than a week do not have a direct impact on Albanian territory. The explanation comes from seismologist Edmond Dushi from the Institute of Geosciences, who says that the entire region is constantly active with its peaks as a result of tectonic plates that are intertwined with each other.
"It is not that the Santorini earthquakes impact us on Albanian territory. Not because of the distance, but because of the nature they have. But of course the entire region is active and the territory of Albania is constantly active. There is an intensity of micro-earthquakes. And this makes us think that the entire region is in a tectonic movement. Both the activity on the territory of Albania and that on Santorini is a consequence of this movement and not a direct influence from one another.
We have a number of tectonic plates in this region that are intertwined with each other. Specifically, we are talking about the African plate in the Aegean arc, a volcanic island arc is a phenomenon expressed under its insertion into the Eurasian plate and here we are talking about the activity in Santorini. As for the activity in other territories including Albania that has normal accumulation and the Adriatic microplate is closely related to the movement of the African plate and other movements that occur.
Unlike what is happening on the Aegean island affected by a group of earthquakes with an above-average magnitude, specialists say that Albania is in conditions of normal seismic activity. Earthquakes that can be felt slightly near the epicenter are most pronounced in the north of the country.
" The most prominent areas are in the north, Puka, between Puka and Fushe Arrezi, Kukes, Kosovo, Macedonia, the northeastern and eastern parts have had pronounced activity, less so the western part. It is not a concern. We are talking about small earthquakes below 3 on the Richter scale. Microearthquakes that are either felt very little or cannot be felt in certain areas..."
The fact that Santorini in Greece is being hit by frequent earthquakes of moderate energy, according to seismologists, proves the high potential in this area. Meanwhile, the micro-earthquakes that stations record in our country show that there is currently no cause for concern.
