Steps for Electoral Reform, EU Ambassador: The process should be inclusive,

The European Union Ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato, said he supports the joint parliamentary committee on electoral reform, as part of a package of initiatives aimed at assessing the overall electoral environment, not just the legal framework.

Gonzato emphasized the importance of addressing the challenges not only of the past, but also of the future, based on the recommendations of the OSCE ODIHR and the Venice Commission.

Silvio Gonzato, EU Ambassador: A joint parliamentary commission on electoral reform will be established along with other initiatives aimed at assessing the overall environment, not only the legal framework, that could affect the field, is equal to that for elections that according to the OSCE ODIHR has been lacking, but also shows the fact that it is understood that there is a need to face the challenges of the past and the future.

We in the EU welcome these steps and encourage you to have a comprehensive, fact-based process, guided by the OSCE ODIHR and the recommendations of the Venice Commission.

The CEC has taken important steps following a post-election analysis with proposals to strengthen transparency, efficiency in future electoral processes. We fully support these proposals.
