Sentenced to life imprisonment for the 'Lushnja massacre', hearings begin in the Special Appeal for Laert Haxhiu
The hearing in the Special Appeal for Laert Haxhiu, sentenced to life imprisonment for the "Lushnja massacre", has started today.
Haxhiu has appealed the first-instance decision that sentenced the 32-year-old to life imprisonment in absentia, accused of murdering Zamir Latif and Jurgen Hoxha, as well as wounding Marjus Xhepexhiu and Bujar Turku.
Prosecutors Altin Dumani and Doloreza Musabelli are present in the hall. The trial is also attended by Haxhiu's father.
Haxhiu was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Special Court on April 24 of this year, for what has been described as the "Lushnje Massacre", an event recorded in 2017, where two people were killed and two others were injured.
The sentence against him was given for the commission of a series of criminal offenses such as "Structured criminal group", "Commitment of criminal offenses by a criminal organization or a structured criminal group", "Murder in other qualifying circumstances", "Holding without permission and manufacturing of weapons, explosive weapons and ammunition" and "Disturbance of public peace".
