Wanted by Interpol for arms trafficking, Albanian caught enjoying vacation in Colombia

An Albanian wanted internationally for suspected links to arms trafficking has been arrested in Colombia, following a joint operation between the Colombian National Navy and Migration agents.
Foreign media report that the Albanian was caught at a well-known hotel on the Rosario Islands, about 40 kilometers from Cartagena.
According to local police, the Albanian, whose identity is still unknown, had an Interpol “red notice” on him, making him a high-priority target for international authorities. His capture came after hotel staff alerted authorities to the presence of a suspicious visitor.
Colombian immigration crossed the suspect's passport data with international databases when it detected the red alert and enabled his identification. The person, who was vacationing in the Rosario Islands, was known for his links to organized crime.
It is reported that when the Albanian saw the people in police uniform, he attempted to escape from the hotel, but was immediately caught by the authorities. After identification and passport verification, the arrested man was transferred to the Colombian Migration offices in Cartagena, where the necessary legal measures were taken.
After the arrest, the Albanian citizen has been taken into custody, while legal procedures for his extradition are underway.
Colombian institutions are coordinating with Interpol and the authorities of the country that issued the red alert to ensure that the process is carried out in accordance with international protocols.
