Safet Gjici, former mayor of Kukës, has asked to be released from prison, due to his health.

Gjici, who was sentenced to 3 years in prison, still has 1 year and 2 months of his remaining sentence to serve, while he is currently hospitalized. According to the lawyer, the former mayor of Kukes suffers from problems of the cardiovascular system, enlargement of the aorta and severe form of diabetes.

On the other hand, the three experts of the Institute of Forensic Medicine, who during the session for the former mayor Gjici, took the oath before the Judge of the First Instance of the General Jurisdiction Elbasan, must give answers to the 11 questions addressed to the court.

In an official announcement of the Court, it is stated that the Forensic experts have been assigned the following tasks by the Court:

1. Does citizen Safet Gjici suffer from any illness, if so, please provide a history of his illness from the time of his arrest to the date of the objective examination and what is the diagnosis?
2. What are the pathologies found in the applicant Safet Gjici?
3. Does the applicant suffer from diabetes and if so, what is the degree of the disease, the consequences caused, the therapy followed, has it been effective and what is the most appropriate medication that is recommended?
4. Has diabetes caused failure of vital organs?
5. Does the applicant Safet Gjici suffer from cardio-vascular problems and if so what is the diagnosis?
6. Has the applicant Safet Gjici's health worsened during his stay in the Institutions for the Execution of Criminal Decisions, if so, did he receive the appropriate treatment?
7. Does citizen Safet Gjici suffer from any particularly serious illness?
8. Does the applicant need specialized treatment and if so, does the Medical Institution where he is accommodated offer this treatment?
9. At the time of the objective examination, what is the state of health of the applicant, is it such that it poses a risk to the life of the applicant?
10. If so, what is the effective therapy suitable for eliminating this risk and does the Medical Institution where it is currently located enable it?
11. Is the applicant's life in danger if he remains isolated in the Institution for the Execution of Criminal Decisions?

The court authorized the experts to familiarize themselves with all the acts that are part of the court file.
