A French court is expected to decide today whether former President Nicolas Sarkozy can be released from prison after his appeal.

The former president is seeking release following his appeal against a five-year prison sentence for criminal conspiracy.

Sarkozy has been in prison since October 21, but his lawyers asked for him to be released or placed under house arrest.

He reportedly complained that his life in prison was "very difficult," while insisting once again that he was innocent.

" I will never confess to something I did not do ," he said, adding that he continues his fight " for the truth to triumph."
