A report published by a US Congressional committee, following a two-year investigation into the coronavirus pandemic, suggests that Covid-19 may have originated in a laboratory in Wuhan, China. The report, with a length of 520 pages, states that there is insufficient evidence to support the theory of natural origin of the virus, citing biological characteristics not found in nature.
The commission raises doubts about measures such as social distancing, the use of masks and quarantines, stressing that these policies are not supported by strong scientific data. The report also mentions that some lab researchers in Wuhan reportedly fell ill with a similar virus in late 2019, before the outbreak of the pandemic.
The report also cites testimony from American immunologist Anthony Fauci, who admitted during a closed-door session that some measures, such as social distancing, did not have a science-based justification.
This new conclusion reinforces the global debate over the origins of the virus and how the pandemic was handled by authorities around the world.
