Corina Machado wins Nobel Peace Prize, first reaction: I dedicate it to the people of Venezuela and President Trump

In a post on social media, Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado commented on her Nobel Peace Prize, emphasizing that this honor is "recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans" and called for unity to fulfill the goal of "conquering freedom."
Machado, in her message, emphasized that this international distinction is not just about her, but about all the Venezuelan people, who, as she said, "have been fighting for years for freedom and democracy."
"This recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans is an incentive to complete our mission: to conquer Freedom," Machado wrote, expressing optimism that the country is "on the verge of victory."
At the same time, she referred to Venezuela's allies on the international stage, emphasizing that "more than ever" she bases her hopes on "President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America and the democratic countries of the world," who - as she noted - constitute "main allies."
Machado concluded her message by dedicating the award to "the suffering people of Venezuela and President Trump, for his strong and decisive support for our cause."
Her reaction when she learned she was a Nobel Prize winner
Machado said she was "shocked" to learn she had been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, according to a video sent to AFP by her press team. "My God... I have no words," she added.
"I am grateful on behalf of the Venezuelan people," she said, among other things, when she was awakened in the middle of the night by a filmed phone call from the secretary of the Nobel committee, Christian Berg Harpviken, who informed her that she had won the prize.
White House accuses Nobel committee of putting politics over peace
The White House previously reacted sharply to the announcement of this year's Nobel Peace Prize winner, with communications director Steven Chung attacking the committee, claiming it prioritizes politics over peace.
In a post on the X platform, Chung said that United States President Donald Trump "will continue to make peace deals, end wars, and save lives."
Chung described Trump as "a man with a humanitarian heart," adding that "there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with his own will."
The US president has repeatedly expressed his desire to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, with several of his supporters – including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – publicly endorsing his candidacy.
This recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans is a boost to conclude our task: to conquer Freedom.
