Governor: Charlie Kirk murder suspect not cooperating with authorities

The suspect in the Charlie Kirk shooting is " not cooperating " with authorities and has not admitted to being the shooter, Utah Governor Spencer Cox told US media.
Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested about 33 hours after the killing of Charlie Kirk, a prominent Republican activist, who was shot dead on Wednesday while giving a speech near a large group of students.
Speaking to ABC News , the Republican governor said that people around Robinson have cooperated with the investigation. Cox appeared on several US media outlets on Sunday morning, where he also reiterated his concerns about the influence of social media in the wake of Kirk's murder.
The governor was also asked about a New York Times report , which claims Robinson had communicated with others after the shooting via the Discord platform , including claims that he had joked about being the perpetrator of the attack.
Cox told ABC: "All we can confirm is that those conversations did happen, but they didn't believe it was him. It was just a joke, until he admitted to them that it was really him." Robinson was arrested on Thursday evening after turning himself in to police.
Kirk was speaking at an open house at Utah Valley University, hosted by Turning Point USA, an organization he co-founded. The event was part of a speaking tour he was giving at various universities across the US.
Governor Cox previously told the Wall Street Journal that Robinson, originally from Utah, was "deeply indoctrinated with leftist ideology."
When asked about this statement on CNN's " State of the Union , " he responded that this was information provided by the suspect's friends and family.
"There are many things we are learning and will learn. When formal charges are filed, there will be much more evidence and information."
Cox added that among the people cooperating with investigators is Robinson's roommate, who was also reportedly his partner. He explained that the partner had no knowledge of the shooting and has been " extremely cooperative " with investigators.
The governor also confirmed that the partner is " in the process of transitioning from male to female ," but added that authorities do not yet know if this is related to the case.
An official document from the state of Utah confirms that Robinson has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and obstruction of justice. He is currently being held in the Utah County Jail without bail.
"We are interviewing every person who knows him and trying to learn more about the possible motive, " Governor Cox said.
Kirk's memorial service will be held on September 21 at State Farm Stadium in Arizona, where he lived with his wife and two children. His wife, Erika, gave an emotional speech on Saturday in which she thanked emergency services and promised that "her husband's voice will live on."
