Strong earthquake tremors in Crete, here's the magnitude

An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale struck the Eastern Mediterranean region, off the coast of Greece, this morning. The tremors were recorded at 07:20 local time.

According to data from seismological institutes, the earthquake had a very shallow depth of only 7.1 kilometers (4.4 miles), which meant it was felt with greater intensity in areas near the epicenter than would occur with a deeper earthquake of similar magnitude.

Residents of coastal areas reported strong shaking sensations, but so far there have been no reports of material damage or injuries.
