"Very good relations with Trump", Mitsotakis: The absence of the US ambassador in Athens is not a concern for Greece

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was asked to comment on relations between Athens and Washington following Donald Trump's second election as US president during the press conference he held on Sunday.

Furthermore, recently, relations between Europe and the US have been in turmoil due to Trump's tariffs, and in fact, just two days ago, it was again put in doubt – due to pending legal proceedings – whether the trade agreements would remain in force.

The Greek Prime Minister was asked about Greek-American relations, as well as the delay in the arrival of the new American ambassador to Athens, Kimberly Guilfoyle.

"Our relations with President Trump are very good," Mr. Mitsotakis initially stated, answering the relevant question, while commenting on the prolonged delay of Kimberly Guilfoyle's failure to arrive in Athens and whether he knows anything about it, he replied: "It worries me, but we are on the right track."

“Very good relationship over time”

Speaking in detail about Athens-Washington relations, Kyriakos Mitsotakis recalled that "Greece has historically had very good relations, both with Democrats and Republicans."

"I want to remind you that I worked with President Trump. I am quite old now and I am one of the few European leaders who had the opportunity to work with him and we had an excellent cooperation for the period of the overlap of my mandate with the first term of his administration," he added.

"I'm worried about the delay with Guilfoyle"

Regarding the new US ambassador taking office, Mitsotakis responded: "It certainly worries me and I would like the new ambassador to come to Athens earlier, but this does not worry Greece. It has to do with a general problem regarding the way the ratifications of the US president's decisions work in the Senate and Congress."
