Queen Camilla retires from events due to health issues

Queen Camilla has pulled out of a planned event this week due to a chest infection, Buckingham Palace has said.

No further details have been given about her illness or treatment, but it is known that she is resting at home and under the supervision of doctors.

The Duchess of Gloucester will be present on behalf of the Queen, 77, at the annual opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey on Thursday.

A statement from the Palace said the Queen hopes to recover in time to attend this weekend's Remembrance events.

Members of the royal family usually attend a number of commemorative events.

The Queen will also not attend a reception at Buckingham Palace for Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

The Palace statement said: "Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest.

It is with great regret that Her Majesty has had to withdraw from her engagements for this week, but she very much hopes that she will recover in time to participate normally in this weekend's commemorative events."

The Queen and King recently returned from a royal tour of Australia and Samoa.

King Charles is being treated for an undisclosed form of cancer and postponed public engagements in February, before returning to the public in April.
