What does it mean that Elon Musk is about to become the world's first trillionaire? - asked Pope Leo XIV in his first interview since being elected to the Vatican.

The interview was given by the Pope to the American magazine Crux and excerpts of it were published today by the Peruvian newspaper El Comercio.

The Pope highlighted the growing gap between the incomes of the rich and the poor, as well as between workers and CEOs of private companies.

The American pope then added: "I read the news that Elon Musk will become the world's first trillionaire. What is it about and what does it mean? If that's the only thing that has value today, then there's a big problem."

Referring to the Ukrainian issue, he stressed that he believes that pressure should be exerted, from many sides, to make it clear that differences can be resolved in another way.

"I strongly believe that we can never lose hope. I have great faith in the human race," said Pope Prevost.

According to the Holy Father of Catholics, in our time "polarization seems to be one of the strongest words. But it doesn't help anyone. Or if it helps some, it's minimal, since everyone else suffers."

Regarding how his life has changed in recent months, Pope Leo stressed that "there are still many things he has to learn."

As he explained, “the new element is that he suddenly found himself at the level of international leaders” and that “during this period he is discovering the role that the Holy See has played in the field of diplomacy.”

Finally, regarding the process of synodality within the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Leo stated: "the goal is not to transform the Church into a kind of democratic government, because, if we look at many countries today, democracy is not necessarily the perfect solution for everything."
