Belgium paralyzes, unions strike over pension reform
2025-01-14 13:34:23 / BOTA

A nationwide strike against proposed pension reform paralyzed air and rail traffic in Belgium, and led to the closure of many schools.
Nearly half of the flights at Brussels Airport were canceled, as ground staff went on strike, writes A2.
Schools were closed, with tens of thousands of teachers expected to join a national strike to protest pension reforms being discussed by the parties expected to form the new government after the June 2024 elections.
The unions, who gathered to protest in the capital, fear that the next government will reduce pensions and propose less favorable conditions for retirees.
