Peru's new government has announced the declaration of a state of emergency in the capital Lima, following a new wave of violence caused by organized crime.
This comes after a wave of violence from organized crime that sparked massive protests that left one dead and around 100 injured.
The head of the transitional government, Ernesto Álvarez, told the media: "We will announce the decision to declare a state of emergency, at least in the Lima region."
The decision comes as part of the authorities' efforts to restore order and public safety at a time of high tension in the country.
