Over 40,000 Palestinians have been killed as a result of Israeli military attacks in Gaza since October 7, the Gaza Ministry of Health has announced, the BBC reports.
Israel launched the attack on Gaza following the Hamas offensive on Israeli territory on October 7, which killed around 1,200 people and took over 250 hostages.
Gaza's health ministry, which is run by Hamas, has said the total death toll in the Israeli offensive has reached 40,005 - about 1.7 percent of Gaza's total population of 2.3 million.
Meanwhile, this month, Israel's army told the "BBC" that "over 15,000 terrorists have been killed during the war."
In addition to the high death toll, satellite images show that nearly 60 percent of buildings in Gaza have been damaged or destroyed since the war began.
