Donald Trump called his first official cabinet meeting today after taking office, where he also commented on the war in Ukraine and peace talks with Russia.
During the meeting, when asked what it was like to negotiate with Vladimir Putin, Trump said that the Russian president is a very smart person, but also very cunning.
Trump further told reporters that Putin had no intention of making peace unless he was elected US president.
"I've dealt with some really bad people, but he had no intention of settling this war. I think he wanted negotiations when I was elected, we talked and I think we're going to have a deal," Trump said.
President Trump said today that Ukraine could even forget about NATO membership, while accusing the alliance of being the cause of the War in Ukraine.
"NATO, you can forget about it, that was probably why this whole thing started," the US president said of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
