Missile from Yemen lands in Israel, alarm sirens go off in Tel Aviv

A rocket fired from Yemen landed in an open area of central Israel, hitting an unpopulated area and causing no injuries, the Israeli military said.

" Following the sirens that were heard shortly before in central Israel, a surface-to-surface missile was identified crossing central Israel from the east and fell in an open area. No injuries were reported ," the Israeli military said.

Air raid sirens had sounded in Tel Aviv and across central Israel moments before the rocket landed at around 6:35 a.m. local time, sending residents scrambling for shelter.

Loud noises were also heard in the region, which the military said came from missile interceptors being fired. According to the army, protective instructions for Israeli residents were unchanged.

Smoke could be seen rising from an open field in central Israel, a witness told Reuters.

In July, the Iran-aligned Houthis in Yemen shot down a long-range drone in Tel Aviv, killing one person and wounding four others. The attack prompted Israel to launch a major airstrike on Houthi military targets near Yemen's Hodeidah port, killing at least three people and injuring 87 others.

The Israeli military also said 40 shells were fired at Israel from Lebanon on Sunday and were either intercepted or landed in open areas, but no injuries were reported.
