Close allies, Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko signed today the treaty for the security guarantee of the two countries, Russia and Belarus.
The signing follows the release of a revised version of Russia's nuclear doctrine, which for the first time placed Belarus under the Russian nuclear umbrella amid tensions between Moscow and the West over the conflict in Ukraine.
Speaking to Lukashenko, Putin stressed that the new document includes a possible use of Russian tactical nuclear weapons deployed in Belarus in response to aggression.
" I am sure that the treaty will guarantee the security of Russia and Belarus," Putin said.
