Serbia did not announce sanctions against Moscow, Vucic: No one can blackmail us

Serbia will not be blackmailed into adopting the Western line regarding the conflict in Ukraine and imposing sanctions on Russia, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said Thursday.
Belgrade has traditionally maintained close ties with Moscow and has not imposed sanctions on Russia since the outbreak of hostilities between Russia and Ukraine two years ago. Vucic has said on many occasions that his government has been under pressure from Western powers to impose sanctions on Moscow.
" The position we expressed eight days after the start of the conflict in Ukraine is still valid today. Serbia is proud of its position," Vucic told reporters on Thursday when asked if he had faced demands from French President Emmanuel Macron during a visit to Paris earlier this week.
Vucic reached an agreement on the purchase of 12 French-made Rafale fighter jets during his trip to the French capital. Macron asserted at a joint press conference that "Serbia's future lies within the EU" and that Belgrade must respect this with "greater coordination with our foreign policy decisions", fueling speculation that the aircraft deal comes with conditions.
" No one has blackmailed us and no one can blackmail us... Serbia is small in terms of size and population, but it is big in heart and gigantic in terms of citizenship. Serbia will not change its position" , noted Vucic, insisting that his meeting with Macron was "friendly".
