"Trump called adviser Bannon a traitor", the American journalist publishes the audio recordings a few days before the election
Some audio recordings published by a journalist from New York shed light on the friendship between the financier Jeffrey Epstein and Donald Trump, but also on the way the former president of the United States led his administration.
In particular, the recordings highlight the way Trump spoke about his associates, including his former adviser Steve Bannon, whom he called a "canaglia" (disloyal).
These recordings, released on the Fire and Fury podcast series by Michael Wolff, author of three books on Trump's first term and his campaign for a second term in 2020, and James Truman, former reporter for the New Musical Express and editorial director of Condé Nast, include Epstein's reflections on the inner workings of the White House and Trump's inner circle, according to the Guardian.
Wolff says the recordings were made during an interview with Epstein in 2017. The financier died in prison in 2019 after being convicted of sex trafficking, violence and other serious crimes committed over the years.
In the tapes, Epstein describes how Trump pitted his associates against each other, naming Steve Bannon, Reince Priebus and Kellyanne Conway.
" He tells ten people 'Bannon is unfaithful,' 'Priebus is not doing a good job' and 'Kellyanne talks too much - what do you think?'," the Guardian reports, citing the recordings.
Caroline Leavitt, a spokeswoman for the Trump campaign, responded by calling Wolff "a declining writer who constantly makes up lies to sell fictional books because he clearly has no morals or ethics." Leavitt also accused the author of "blatant election interference in favor of Kamala Harris."
