Trump: We hope Russia and Ukraine will make a peace deal this week

US President Donald Trump stated that he was optimistic about ending the conflict in Ukraine.
"We hope that Russia and Ukraine will make a deal this week," he wrote, in all caps, on the social network Truth Social.
"Both will start doing big business with the United States of America, which is booming and will become rich," he added.
Trump recently called on Ukraine and Russia to show a willingness to compromise in the war that Russia started when it launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine more than three years ago.
The US government made it clear that it might otherwise halt efforts to end the war.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a brief ceasefire for the Easter holiday on Saturday, but both sides have accused each other of failing to refrain from attacks.
However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged that at least there had been no air strikes and suggested on Sunday that any attacks using drones and long-range missiles on civilian infrastructure should be halted for a period of at least 30 days.
