Trump calls Putin: Stop escalating the war in Ukraine
The newly elected American President, Donald Trump, has held a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the war in Ukraine.
According to sources for the Washington Post, the call took place on Thursday and Trump warned Putin against escalating the conflict and reminded him of the significant US military presence in Europe.
They also discussed the goal of peace on the continent, as well as the prospect of a further call soon to consider a solution to the war in Ukraine.
The Washington Post said sources indicated that the Ukrainian government had been informed of Putin's call, and did not object to the conversation taking place.
Recall that on Friday, the Kremlin said that Putin was ready to discuss Ukraine with Trump, but this did not mean that he was ready to change Moscow's demands, namely that Ukraine give up its ambitions to join with NATO and hand over the four territories currently held by Russia.
