Just hours before taking office as president, thousands protest against Trump

Thousands of demonstrators, mostly women, have taken to the streets of Washington to protest against President-elect Donald Trump, who is expected to take office tomorrow.

The People's March, formerly known as the Women's March, has been held annually since 2017.

A coalition of groups organized the movement with the aim of confronting “Trumpism,” as they call it.

Smaller protests against Trump were held in New York City and across the country in Seattle.

The rallies coincide with Trump's arrival in the nation's capital for a series of weekend events ahead of his inauguration ceremony on Monday.

The organizers had expected 50,000 people, but around 5,000 showed up. A smaller number than in previous years.

Protesters gathered in three parks before marching to the Lincoln Memorial for a rally.
