At least 13 people have died and three others have been injured after a railway station shelter collapsed in Novi Sad, Serbia on Friday afternoon.
It is suspected that there are other bodies left under the rubble. Currently, over 100 members of rescue teams are on the scene.
Serbia has announced November 2 as a day of mourning.
This railway station was built in 1964. In 2024, after three years of reconstruction, this station was reopened. On July 5, the opening of the reconstructed facility was attended by the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Goran Vesič, the head of the Provincial Government, Maja Gojkovic, and the head of the Municipality of Novi Sad, Millan Gjurič.
The Infrastructure of the Railways of Serbia announced that the shelter that collapsed "has not been subject to reconstruction within the works for the renovation of the station facility within the construction project of the Novi Sad-Subotica high-speed line".
