Wall Street Journal: Trump wants to withdraw troops from NATO countries that have not cooperated with Iran

Donald Trump's administration is considering a plan to impose sanctions on several NATO countries, which it considers have not cooperated sufficiently with the United States and Israel during the conflict with Iran.

The news was published by The Wall Street Journal, citing American officials familiar with discussions within the administration.

According to the report, the proposal would see US troops withdraw from NATO countries deemed less useful to the military effort against Iran, and then redeploy them to countries that have provided stronger support for the US campaign.

The development coincides with a visit to the White House by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. However, the plan still seems far from Trump's previous threats of a complete US withdrawal from the military alliance.

According to American legislation, such a decision cannot be implemented without the approval of the United States Congress, while analysts estimate that it is unlikely that a sufficient majority would support such a drastic step.
