Even after the increase, salaries in the public administration remain about

While the government two years ago entered into a feverish race to equalize wages with the region, the latter has not stood still, causing the race to be lost again, despite the advantage provided by the devaluation of the euro.

Government institutions proudly announced yesterday that the gross monthly salary in the public administration increased by 15% in the third quarter of the year, reaching 96.8 thousand ALL.

Converted to the common currency, with the current exchange rate (about 98.2 lek), the salary in euros was calculated at 987 euros in many posters that were distributed on social networks.

The government has actually been helped by the devaluation of the euro in recent years, as converted at the exchange rate of two years ago (when it was 115 lek), the salary would be around 840 euros, or about 150 euros less than today. As a result, expressed in euros, the gross monthly salary in the administration is overestimated by the effect of the exchange rate, while in reality the income in lek is worth less today, due to the high cost of living in the last two years.

Even with the help of the course, the salary in the public administration remains about 20% lower than the average of the region, with the exception of Kosovo, according to the data of the relevant statistical institutions processed by "Monitor", which belong to the third quarter of 2024. countries of the region, the administration is paid between 1000-1400 euros per month.

The highest average monthly gross salary in administration is in Bosnia and Herzegovina, at 2,789 BAM (convertible mark), or 1,425 euros. In second place is Montenegro, where an employee in the administration receives an average of 1,189 euros per month. Serbia is at the same level, with 62,573 dinars, or 1,188 euros. North Macedonia has a level of 62,573 dinars or about 1,020 euros.

The Statistics Agency of Kosovo has published data only for the year 2023, where the average salary for employees in the state is 713 euros.

If the effect of the exchange rate were to be stripped away, the average salary in the country remains about 30% lower than other countries in the region, excluding Kosovo.

The increase in wages in the state did not attract the private sector

Although the Prime Minister's philosophy was that the increase in salaries in the state would also attract the private sector, this has not happened.

The state administration enjoyed a significant increase in salaries in the third quarter of this year, both in relation to the previous quarter and the same period a year ago.

The opposite happened with those who work in the private sector, who in the summer received less than the previous quarter, while even compared to the summer of a year ago, the increase was slight.

INSTAT reported that the average gross monthly salary for a salaried employee, during the third quarter of 2024, is ALL 77,669, increasing by 8.6%, compared to the same quarter last year.

The average monthly salary for a salaried employee in the state sector reached a record of 96.8 thousand ALL, with an increase of almost 15% compared to the same period a year ago.

In terms of value, state employees receive 12.5 thousand ALL more per month. Even compared to the previous quarter, the salary has increased by almost 11 thousand ALL. In July, salary increases for doctors, teachers and army employees came into effect.

In contrast, in the private sector, annual wage growth has been very low. According to INSTAT data, the average monthly salary for a salaried employee in the private sector was ALL 69,000 in the third quarter.

Compared to the previous quarter, the average salary in the private sector has slightly decreased. Even compared to a year ago, the increase is much lower than in the state, with 5.4%, or 3.5 thousand ALL more. /Monitor
