The Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, today held a working meeting with Emanuel Salinas, representative of the World Bank (WB) Office in Albania.

The governor made an exposition of the economic panorama in the country focused on financial stability, economic growth, credit and deposit performance. He emphasized that the first half of 2024 was characterized by a good economic growth, with positive developments in the labor market in terms of unemployment and wage levels, improvement of fiscal indicators and significant mitigation of inflationary pressures, which followed from BSH's decision to reduce the basic interest rate to 3% in July.

The Governor also discussed one of the strategic objectives of the Bank of Albania, such as the modernization of payment systems and more specifically the membership in the Single Euro Payments Market, otherwise known as SEPA, and the implementation of the Instant Payment project, for which the Bank of Albania is cooperating closely with the experts of the Bank of Italy. In this context, the World Bank can play a supporting role for this project of strategic importance for the Bank of Albania and the development of payments in the country.

Another priority of the Bank of Albania this period, in which the commitment of the World Bank remains of particular importance, has been the improvement of the regulatory framework for the financial system and especially in the field of consumer protection in order to ensure the protection of the interests of consumer goods in the face of the continuous developments of this market.

According to the official announcement of the Bank of Albania, Mr. Salinas congratulated Governor Sejko for the commitment shown during the successful implementation of joint projects and stated that the World Bank will continue to commit itself to deepening technical assistance programs and inter-institutional cooperation even further. .
