Why does the EU progress report not talk about political arrests in Albania?
The progress report of the European Commission for Albania for the year 2024 has been published in the Albanian media today. This progress report refutes all the claims of the Albanian opposition that in Albania Justice is being used to attack the opposition by arresting its leaders. In no line, in any part of it, directly or indirectly, is it said that justice in Albania is being used to attack the opposition. On the contrary, one of the few institutions that receives praise is SPAK in the fight against corruption.

In fact, this progress report says the opposite, that it is politics that cooperates against justice by voting for an amnesty that amnesties people accused of corruption and hindering the work of SPAK in this direction.

And this EU report is announced after the visit of opposition MPs to the European Parliament, who according to them informed their colleagues how SPAK was being used for the arrests of opposition leaders. If before they were uninformed, after this informative visit they should have written something about the concerns of the opposition. The truth is that SPAK is their spawn, for the establishment and operation of which they have spent money from European taxpayers.

Based on this fact, the Albanian opposition has no reason to convince its European partners that SPAK is a tool in the hands of the government to attack the opposition. It is crazy to think that the EU would open negotiations in a country where opposition leaders are arrested by the political order of the head of government. If this were the case, the European Union and the reason why it was created would fall.

The battle of the Albanian opposition against SPAK is a waste of energy since no partner, no ally of Albania will follow it in this claim. The EU can give the Democratic Party guarantees for free elections, it can listen to any of its claims about organized crime and its connections with the government in Albania. But only one thing will not give, the dismantling of SPAK, what the DP has electoral program for the parliamentary elections of 2025.

Even more so when the negotiations were opened in Albania thanks to the work of SPAK and the fight against corruption. In all the reports of the EU or other reliable international organizations, the only institution that is mentioned for the progress it has in its work is SPAK. The Democratic Party's fight with this institution is like a fight with windmills. In fact, it is a war that is losing the credibility of the opposition more and more every day. There is no party in the world whose main struggle is with the institutions of justice. In this regard, it behaves the same as the government and Edi Rama. Just as the latter does not recognize the decisions of the justice bodies, such as those of the Constitutional Court, the DP behaves the same way with the special prosecutor's office, attacking it every day and considering it a criminal organization.

Therefore, the Democratic Party must find other allies to dismantle SPAK, because the EU cannot help it for this purpose. He doesn't even have the Albanian people with him, since about 70 percent of them support SPAK in its work. The only ally left for DP to dismantle SPAK is Edi Rama. With this alliance, there is a real chance that I can succeed, since even on the other side, they do not have much sympathy for this institution.
