The fundamental documents of the Albanian Constitution will be exhibited in Venice

The Council of Ministers approved today the decision to allow the presentation abroad of some original documents of the Archival Fund of the Republic of Albania, at the international exhibition "Democracy through Law", to be held at the premises of the "Doge's Apartments at Palazzo Ducale", in Venice, Italy.

The exhibition will take place from 11 October 2025 to 6 January 2026, as part of the activities for the 35th anniversary of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission), organized in collaboration with the Italian Office of the Council of Europe, the Venice Commission, the Archival and Bibliographic Superintendence of Veneto and Trentino-Alto Adige, the State Archives of Venice, the “Musei Civici di Venezia” foundation and the Veneto Regional Council.

This exhibition will present three original documents important to the state-forming history of Albania:

– Law No. 8417, dated 21.10.1998, “Constitution of the Republic of Albania” (40 pages);

– Decree No. 2241, dated 21.10.1998, of the President of the Republic “On the promulgation by referendum of the Constitution of the Republic of Albania”;

– Decree No. 2260, dated 28.11.1998, of the President of the Republic, on the promulgation of the law.

According to the decision, the documents will be sent and returned to the Republic of Albania in the period October 1, 2025 - January 15, 2026, by mail or diplomatic courier, in coordination between the Parliament of the Republic of Albania and the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, which is responsible for the implementation of this decision.

The decision enters into force immediately and is published in the "Official Gazette".
