Kosovo, 2 Serbian List MPs plead not guilty to attacks on journalists in the north

Serbian List MP Slavko Simic and Uros Vuksanovic have pleaded not guilty to charges related to attacks on journalists in Leposavic in June 2023.
The initial hearing for Simić and Vuksanović was held at the Basic Court in Mitrovica, after it had been postponed to September 18.
"Your Honor, I am absolutely not guilty," Simic said in the courtroom.
Vuksanovic also said that "I do not admit guilt because I am innocent."
The initial hearing on September 18 was postponed after the defendants' lawyers said they had not received the full briefs from the prosecutor in the case.
What are MPs Simić and Vuksanović accused of?
On June 13 of this year, the Basic Prosecution Office in Mitrovica filed an indictment against an MP from the Serbian List – the main Serb party in Kosovo that enjoys the support of Belgrade.
Simic is accused of "participation in a crowd committing a criminal offense and hooliganism."
According to the Prosecution, on June 16, 2023, during the protests against the visit of the minister, now in charge of the Local Government Administration, Elbert Krasniqi, "intentionally participated in the crowd of more than eight people, so that at the moment that Minister EK left the Leposaviq Municipality building, masked civilians began to throw stun grenades in the direction of the official vehicle, and after the official vehicle passed, the defendant gave orders to the crowd, telling them to attack the media."
In the indictment announcement, the Prosecution said that the attack continued towards the journalists, initially with a bomb, and then the crowd was hit with punches, kicks, hard objects, concrete bricks, and other objects. During this attack, two journalists suffered serious bodily injuries, the Prosecution said.
Meanwhile, the Prosecution accuses the defendant Urosh Vuksanovic of "direct involvement in the use of force against Kosovo journalists."
He is accused of the criminal offenses of "assault" and "participation in a crowd committing a criminal offense and hooliganism."
After the indictment was filed, the Serbian List stated that Simić had attempted to “protect everyone present, including media teams.”
