The over 120-year-old mechanism of the old clock of the city of Shkodra is found.
It was found in the tower of a 6-story building, where it was kept by a Shkodra family for 33 years after the fall of communism.
Through a post on Facebook, the mayor of Shkodër, Benet Beci, says that the old clock mechanism was found in the small tower just above the palace in the center of the city.
" I never thought that we would find the old clock mechanism there in the small tower just above the palace, when I asked a municipal employee to go and verify it. The over 120-year-old clock mechanism was still there, thanks to the Kurraj family and Mrs. Suzana who had kept it for years.
It seemed to me that we discovered a treasure of the city, so I want to publicly express my gratitude and on behalf of Shkodër Municipality for the citizenship shown by this family during all these years'.
Thanks to the watchmaker Besnik Sahatçia, the maintainer Ermir Dibra and the restorer Petrit Bilali, the history of this clock and the values it carries, as well as the cleaning and maintenance of its mechanism, were learned.
With this simple initiative, but convinced that I have the support of the citizens of Shkodra, I am pleased to announce that this mechanism is becoming part of the city Museum fund" - writes the mayor, adding that work is being done on the complete reconstruction of the Clock Shkodra to make it functional in the same place.
