Preç Zogaj comments for Report Tv on the historical student movement of December 1990, describing it as an epochal event in the history of Albania. He calls it a student cigar movement, which was supported by intellectuals and citizens of Tirana.
Zogaj points out that this was the first time that a large block of students and young people rose up against the communist regime, an act that dealt a severe blow to the system. He emphasizes to the journalist Denis Minga that Albania could no longer remain as the "black sheep".
He also states that there were attempts to discredit this movement, attributing it to collaboration with the regime, but emphasizes that it was a spontaneous student movement.
" The democratic movement that began on December 8 and continued for a few more days, brought an epochal break in our history, the transition from communism to pluralism. At its core, at its inception, it is a student movement. It started as a student movement, it is a great event in history. The merit belongs to the students, then intellectuals, citizens of Tirana who guaranteed that movement have joined. We must go back to the first day of freedom. The students gave battle to the regime like never before in the entire history of the regime. During the 45 years there have been cyclical confrontations, every 7-8 years, the pros have been in small groups or individuals that the regime crushed easily. For the first time on December 8, 1990 there was a large block of students, young people. The cup was full and Albania could not remain as the black sheep of the former communist birth. All other countries had changed, communism had fallen. Then, attempts have always been made to discredit this movement by accusing it of collaboration with the regime. It is a student cigar movement, then the regime made maneuvers, but the regime did not cause it. The regime has caused that the cup was filled. There is no direction, it is very spontaneous", said Zogaj on Report TV.
