Tear gas in the Mosque, clashes and Molotov cocktails/ What happened at the

The Democratic Party held its fourth national protest in front of the Prime Minister's Office this Friday afternoon (February 20, 2026) to demand the removal of Edi Rama, following the scandals involving his government.

The protest initially began peacefully at 4:00 PM, with a speech by actress Rajmonda Bulku and then continued with representatives of the Democratic Party, including the leader of the Democrat Party, Sali Berisha.

Berisha declared and promised once again that they will remove the citizens or he will leave himself. Berisha further drew a parallel between the communist regime and the current political situation, as he stated that Edi Rama's days are numbered.

" "Honor forever to those brave men who, like lions, attacked the dictator's statue, overturned it, and liberated Albania from communist dictatorship.

We honor this date today with deep gratitude and great inspiration, with our pledge to Albanians that Edi Rama's days will be numbered.

My friends, 35 years ago, Albanians would never have thought that 35 years later they would be facing a regime. Certainly not identically the same, but unfortunately very similar in many aspects.

They could not believe that 35 years later, the country's powers would be in the hands of an unprecedented historical criminal after Enver Hoxha, the country's power in the hands of a traitor who will always blacken national history for his acts of betrayal against the nation and the country, they would be in the hands of a man who would plunder Albania like no other in our history.

"35 years ago, those men and women who braved armored vehicles, snipers, and machine guns for a free vote and human dignity could not believe that 35 years later, the electoral farce of the one they overthrew would return ," said Berisha.

After Berisha's speech, the protest became tense. Some protesters threw Molotov cocktails and fireworks towards the Prime Minister's Office building for several minutes.

During the clash, one of the Molotov cocktails hit a police water truck, but the flames were quickly extinguished. Law enforcement intervened to disperse the crowd and stabilize the situation.

The protesters then moved towards the Parliament building, where tensions continued. Police forces were increased in the area, while there were again moments of clashes and the throwing of incendiary devices. The situation remained tense for several hours, with Molotov cocktails from the protesters and tear gas from the police.

The tear gas used by the police did not spare even Muslim believers, who were performing religious rites inside the Namazgja Mosque at the time of the clashes.

Due to the spread of gas in the area, many of them were forced to interrupt their prayers and hastily leave the mosque premises.

Clashes between protesters and police also resulted in injuries. Democratic Party (DP) candidate for MP, Senida Mehmeti, was injured in the forehead. According to reports, she is suspected of having been hit with a rubber bullet.

Also, a protester allegedly asphyxiated from tear gas and lost consciousness for several moments, receiving assistance at the scene.
