A few hours after signing, Sali Berisha sends his lawyer to SPAK: Postpone my interrogation to January 21
Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has requested from the Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime to postpone his appearance before this Structure regarding the "January 21" file.
It was his lawyer, Genc Gjokutaj, who recently appeared at the premises of the Special Prosecution Office where he filed their request to postpone the questioning of his client.
Media sources indicate that this request from Berisha came with the argument that he will not be in Albania on Friday.
Earlier, this Monday, the Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime, through an official announcement, announced that former Prime Minister Berisha was served with a summons to appear before this body as a person in knowledge regarding the event of January 21, 2011, where four innocent protesters were killed on "Dëshmorët e Kombit" Boulevard.
SPAK announced that the right-wing leader, during today's appearance on the implementation of the security measure regarding the "Partizani" file, has also signed the subpoena for "January 21".
"Today, on 17.11.2025, during the implementation of the measure "compulsory appearance" at the Special Prosecution Office, Mr. Sali Berisha was recognized and signed the summons regarding criminal proceedings no. 138 of 2024 (case of January 21), through which he is required to appear at the Special Prosecution Office, on the specified date and time ," the SPAK announcement said.
On Friday, Sali Berisha refused to appear at SPAK, claiming that he had not received any summons from the Special Prosecution Office.
Even when asked today by journalists, Berisha said that he has never been summoned by the justice system regarding the bloody event of January 21, 2011, where 4 protesters were unjustly killed, because according to him, they are "afraid of my testimony."
"Notification is called when a person undertakes to notify or when the person is notified directly. No person has come to tell me the time and date and to deliver a letter to me. No person has received any letter in my name. I have two e-mails. One mine and one from Parliament that I have only used once. In my conversations on Whats App or signal, I have not received anything. They have never called me because they were afraid of my testimony", said Berisha.
