Why did the SP refuse to approve the minimum wage? Minister: We are interested

The Minister of Health, Albana Koçiu, in a statement to the media after the meeting of the Council of Ministers, was asked by journalists about the rejection by the majority of the opposition's amendment to set the living minimum at 200 euros.

Koçiu said that according to her, the amendment was dropped because the government is interested in these people being integrated into the labor market and being an active force. According to the minister, if only financial support will be offered to the poor and needy, then they will be producing the cycle of poverty.

" Today we are supporting the fact that all those people who are poor and need employment, seem to be able to integrate into the labor market. We care about integrating people who are active in the workforce and breaking the cycle of poverty. If we continue a priori support for a family that is poor or cannot afford the minimum conditions, we are simply producing the cycle of poverty. Our social policies are based on the empowerment of society," she said.

Among other things, the minister stated that the methodology for assessing the minimum living wage and the families in need should be measured.

"We overturned the amendment requested by the opposition because in our judgment it is not evaluated as it should be, as we must have a common agreement on the methodology, that is, on the way the minimum wage is measured and then assess who is the minimum wage and families in need ", Koçiu said.
