Rama will receive a 75.5 million euro loan for waste management
75.5 million euros is the value of a loan that the government will receive from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development for the reduction of pollution in the water environment, in some areas in the southwest of the country.

The focus will be on integrated waste management, aiming to achieve the objectives of sustainable development, for the significant reduction in waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse.

The loan agreement has arrived at the Assembly for discussion, while according to the accompanying report, the objectives that the project aims to achieve are related to the promotion of integrated circular approaches for the protection of landscapes and water resources, the reduction of water pollution in the Vjosë river and the expansion of sanitary infrastructure .

The focus on pollution reduction and prevention measures will include investments in gray and green infrastructure as well as human capital for behavior change. This is expected to bring improved and integrated management of municipal waste, including plastic waste to move towards a circular economy in the Vlorë South - Gjirokastër waste area.

Also, improved management of water pollution from known sources is expected, especially from untreated polluted waters in the Vjosë river basin.

Waste management in Albania is still dominated by a linear approach of collection and disposal, while the best economic and environmental practices applied in EU countries include the integrated components of the circular economy./ SCAN
