Rama: With the 2014 reform, pensions became higher

Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today that a long-term vision and a sustainable plan are needed for pension reform, in order to avoid causing dangerous consequences.

During the international conference on pension system reform in Albania, Rama brought to attention the pension reform undertaken in 2014 and the situation of the pension scheme before this year.

"Today, of course, we are in absolutely different conditions and we certainly feel, understand and at the same time take responsibility for the insistent request of pensioners to participate more significantly in the distribution of the fruits of reforms and the overall growth of the economy," said Rama.

"On the other hand, we are very aware that it would be fatal if at this point we were to act without a long-term vision and without a sustainable long-term plan, because we would cause the same damage and consequences very similar to those caused by the actions that actually put us in front of a completely incomprehensible, absurd and dangerous pension system when we undertook the 2014 reform," Rama added.

The Prime Minister recalled that in the 2014 reform, a process similar to the one being carried out today was carried out, involving as many actors as possible, listening to as many experiences as possible, implementing as many scenarios as possible, and collaborating closely with the lead expert made available to us by the World Bank.
