World Leaders Summit on Climate, Rama skips the prepared speech: Good words

Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke from Baku, Azerbaijan about climate change and the actions being taken by world leaders.

From the podium of the World Climate Summit, Prime Minister Rama said that he decided to put aside the prepared speech and speak what he really thinks.

According to Rama, good words about the fight against climate change do not change anything.

The Prime Minister said that apart from speeches, a common political will is needed on the horizon to go beyond words and unite for meaningful actions.

During his speech, Rama referred to the statement of the UN Secretary General, emphasizing that "carbon emissions increased between COP28 and COP29".

Edi Rama: I decided to put aside my well-prepared speech, because while since yesterday, I could see the silent television screens in the lounge of the leaders where the organizers had carefully thought to add green plants on the comfortable couches, the people there they eat, drink, meet and take pictures together.

While footage of muted speeches from the leaders keep popping up in the background.

To me, this seems exactly like what happens in the real world every day. Life goes on, with its old habits, and our speeches, full of good words about the fight against climate change, change nothing.

What does it mean for the future of the world if the biggest polluters carry on as usual?

What are we going to do in this gathering, over and over again, if there is no common political will on the horizon to go beyond words and come together for meaningful action?
