Partial elections in the Municipality of Tirana, Këlliçi: Within a few hours we will make the candidate official

Democratic Party MP Belind Këlliçi said that tomorrow, after the party's Presidency meeting, the name of the candidate for the partial elections in the Tirana municipality, scheduled for November 9, is expected to be finalized.

In an interview with News 24, Këlliçi stressed that, despite President Begaj's decree on the Tirana elections being considered unconstitutional, the DP will participate in the race to provide an alternative for the city.

He added that, so far, the names that have been rumored are not official and that the party is also open to candidacies from civil society.

Këlliçi:  The Prime Minister's repression of him is extraordinary. I don't say it with regret. Such has been Veliaj's profile. He has been Rama's eternal yes man and is swallowing what he himself has cooked up. Even though we know that Begaj issued an unconstitutional decree for November 9 for the capital.

We have demanded the resignation of the mayor and the holding of elections, of course they welcome the fact that there are early elections and we will not leave the race empty. Putting the interest of the opposition before political interest, we cannot let the Tirana race be boycotted. We have a position. We will have our candidacy.

None of the names you have seen are official names. So far we have had a profile increase that would maximize the opposition's votes. How have we all agreed that we are open to agreeing on a candidacy that also comes from civil society. The three names have never been the definitive names. They are honorable names that I respect.

But the range of candidacies is much wider than that. Tomorrow there will be a leadership meeting where the first item on the agenda is the report on the negotiations with the allies in parliament and not to report their ideas. Then, within a few hours, we will finalize the name that we will have as a united opposition to go to the elections on the 9th. We will give Tirana an alternative.
