Gender Equality Law/ Ambassador of France: There is no specific EU directive on the law, but...

The Ambassador of France to Albania, Catherine Suard, during a visit to Korça, gave a statement to the media on several issues such as the law on gender equality, which has sparked debate recently.
Asked about the gender equality law, the ambassador emphasized that there is no EU directive on this law, but added that all EU texts protect human rights and the absence of discrimination.
"What I can say is that human rights, non-discrimination against any kind of person and population and gender equality are the core values of the European Union. There is no EU directive, all EU texts protect human rights and the absence of discrimination, it is the heart of the law in the EU and it is the heart of French diplomacy as well," she said.
Regarding the latest Council of Europe report on EU standards for Albania, the ambassador described it as positive.
"The report that was recently published was very positive, and was also highlighted by other authorities and the NATO commission, as well as other EU representatives, foreign policy representatives, the prime minister, the EU ambassador to Albania. Yes, it is a positive report that shows progress and takes into account all the unprecedented progress that has been made so far in relation to Albania. What is also clear is that this approach must continue into the future by encouraging reforms and continuing on this path. It is still necessary to go even further than we have gone so far.
Beyond the legal texts is the issue of implementing these reforms and laws. The control and the way in which this norm and these laws will be applied to citizens and various actors, including economic ones, still have a lot to do. I am very confident that Albania is able to achieve its objectives and we are at its disposal to help it, but it is a very difficult job. Everyone must contribute, the political classes and the entire parliament", she said.
Regarding SPAK's progress, Suard considered it the emblematic result of justice reform.
"SPAK is the emblematic result of justice reform in Albania. It is an extraordinary tool that has been greatly developed and today it is a tool that provides an important indicator of our justice systems. It is not only an institution that receives information from abroad but it is an institution that has now become a full partner with our security systems, information and international judicial cooperation. So, it is an extraordinary result that depends a lot on the personality at the top and I hope that it will continue even with the recent changes in SPAK's leadership," she said.
