Former KLP leader: Giving weapons to judges and prosecutors makes you brave

The murder of Judge Astrit Kalaja, while on duty, in the middle of the courtroom, while delivering a decision, has caused numerous reactions, leading to requests from his colleagues for their safety.

Invited to Klan News,  former Head of the High Prosecutorial Council, Alfred Balla, proposed that judges and prosecutors be equipped with personal weapons for self-defense.

"At least give them a weapon, like we used to have in the past. A weapon makes you brave, even as a judge and prosecutor. Until the time of Saimir Tahiri, it was the law that judges, prosecutors, and judicial police officers had weapons as part of their duties," he said.

Balla further compared this proposal to the case of American officers who are equipped with weapons even outside of duty hours, or in our country, like those of the National Bureau of Investigation.

"You have judicial police officers, how can you get them to the scene? Then, are the Americans stupid? Even the BKH, both male and female, are equipped with weapons. It's the same as the FBI,"  he said.

According to Balla, he does not consider the return of weapons as compulsory, but as additional insurance for the lives of judges or prosecutors, for all those who desire it and feel it is necessary.

"I personally am in favor of returning weapons, whoever wants them, not by force," he said.
