After Ireland, Spain and Slovenia also risk withdrawing from Eurovision

Following Ireland's announcement that it would not participate in Eurovision 2026 if Israel is allowed to participate, Spain and Slovenia are also considering withdrawing from the festival. Irish public broadcaster RTE said that such participation would be "unacceptable" due to the "continued and horrific loss of life in Gaza", and that a final decision would be made after the official position of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
Spain, on the other hand, through its Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, has warned that it does not rule out a boycott if Israel is not excluded from the festival.
During an interview with “La Hora de La 1”, he stressed that Israel’s participation in Eurovision, under the current conditions, constitutes a “normalization” of its actions in Gaza, undermining international accountability. He added that Spain has already made official calls for the exclusion of the Israeli state and the government is ready to take further measures.
Slovenia, according to media sources, is also seriously considering withdrawing, following the example of Ireland and Spain.
This situation is putting great pressure on the EBU, which is expected to issue an official statement in the coming months. The debate raises serious questions about the politicization of the festival and the limits of international representation in cultural events.
