Arsenal receives a hefty fine from the English Football Association

Arsenal have been fined €665,000 by the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) for breaching FA Cup rules during their third-round tie against Manchester United in January last season.

The breach relates to FA Cup Rule 192, which stipulates that for matches that are not semi-finals or finals, the away club has the right to claim 15 percent of the tickets.

Manchester United were supposed to get 9,000 tickets for the match at the Emirates Stadium, but only got 7,956, leaving more than a thousand tickets short.

This was justified by Arsenal on safety grounds, citing difficulties in accommodating opposing team fans in the upper stands due to the constant standing.

The PGB determined that Arsenal had not complied with the rule, but the €500,000 fine has been suspended, provided the club confirms its ability to meet ticket requirements in the upcoming third round of the FA Cup and demonstrates continued compliance in each subsequent round of this season.

Arsenal are considering a major expansion and modernisation of the Emirates Stadium, almost two decades after moving from Highbury in 2006.

The current plan aims to increase the stadium's capacity from 60,700 to over 70,000 seats, which would make it the largest club stadium in London, surpassing Tottenham and West Ham.

This proposed €500 million project aims to increase matchday revenue and address the waiting list for season tickets, which exceeds 100,000 fans.

A dedicated working group is actively evaluating design options, including changing the slope of the stands and reconfiguring the seating, with most of the changes expected to occur within the existing structure.
