Chelsea-Liverpool, a challenge for a turnaround and with numerous absences

Chelsea are today's super challenge in the Premier League. Londoners coach Enco Mareska has heaped praise on his opponent ahead of their highly anticipated match.

The two teams meet at Stamford Bridge and the match comes at a difficult time for both teams. The London Blues have lost three of their last five games, while Liverpool have lost two in a row, including in the Champions League. Mareska says Liverpool are playing well this season, so much so that he believes they are the best team in the Premier League.

" I think Liverpool are the best team at the moment. They showed it by winning the Premier League last year. So I don't think it's better to play against them now. It's always a difficult match against a big team. The way they've handled this season is fantastic, especially after the Diogo Jota tragedy. However, in the Premier League, anyone can beat anyone, so be careful..." said Mareska, who has to do the math with 7 absences.

ARNE SLOT –  Liverpool manager Arne Slot has criticised the referees in his pre-match press conference against Chelsea. He says that if he had the same referees as he did against Galatasaray, he wouldn't have lost the game against Crystal Palace.

" If we had the same referees as we had against Galatasaray, we probably wouldn't have lost to Crystal Palace ," Slott said. Liverpool have lost to Palace and Galatasaray in their last two games. Now they await Chelsea for a turnaround. If there's one thing the Blues have done better than the Reds this season, it's set pieces. Slott is clearly aware of that.

" I think they scored more than 50 percent of their goals from set pieces ," the Dutchman said at the conference.

"So, this is the new reality in the Premier League and we were doing that very well in the second half of last season. This season, we have had a lot of chances from set pieces as well. Unfortunately we haven't scored from those situations yet."

SET KICK-OFFS  – The former Feyenoord manager pointed out that Liverpool have conceded four goals from set-pieces this season, which is the second highest in the league. Chelsea are not much better in terms of defending set-pieces, having conceded three so far. But in attack, they have been very effective in this regard, scoring five goals from set-pieces. Unfortunately for the home team, Trevoh Çalobah, who scored two goals from set-pieces, is suspended for the weekend.
