Jude Bellingham has been suspended for two La Liga matches, the Spanish Football Federation has announced, for the red card he received in Sunday's match against Osasuna.
The English midfielder will miss the important matches against Girona and Real Betis.
The player's suspension came after he insulted referee Munuera Montero during the game, for which he was also given a red card.
Television footage convinced the Spanish Federation to make the decision to punish the former Borussia Dortmund footballer.
Real Madrid, for its part, intends to appeal the decision, insisting that the red card was unnecessary in this case.
The Spanish club insists that the player's insult was not serious enough to warrant a dismissal, let alone a two-match ban.
However, the Spanish Federation is known for its strict and uncompromising decisions when it comes to insults.
