Albania's "home" in Germany: Get to know the details of the Rossoneri sports complex...

After learning the opponents of the Euro 2024 group stage, where they will face Spain, Croatia and Italy in Group B, Albania has already booked accommodation at SportCentrum Kaiserau. This sports complex was built in the eastern Ruhr area and has always been the home of Westphalian athletics and football. SportCentrum Kaiserau has existed in its current form since 2006.
By then, the ground had gone through several stages of development, starting in 1949 with the relocation of the Westphalia Football Association from Hamm to what was then the Kaiserau Youth Home, in Kamen. Just one year later, the association was the owner of the 4.5-hectare area.
In 1952, the sports school was inaugurated. By that time the first extensions had been completed, the dormitories had been converted into smaller rooms and the office was moved to a new area.
From the 1990s, various gymnasiums were established for basketball, athletics, football and other sports. The grounds now also include three grass pitches (one with a modern synthetic running track), two artificial turf pitches and a variety of facilities, from massage rooms to laundry facilities.
Constantly changing
Under President Hermann Korfmacher, who was elected in 2001, planning began for the expansion of the former sports school. In May 2006, SportCentrum Kaiserau was inaugurated, which until June 2018 was called SportCentrum Kamen-Kaiserau.
In addition to the Sports School, there is also a SportHotel and SportCongressCenter. The hotel, designed as an athlete's house, offers a total of 48 rooms on a high level.
The first notable guest was the Spanish national football team in June 2006, who stayed at Kaiserau during the World Cup in Germany.
Thanks to the relatively central location within Westphalia with excellent transport connections at the Kamener Kreuz junction (with motorways 1 and 2 in the north/south and east/west directions respectively) and thanks to the railway station in Kamen-Methler, which is only a ten-minute walk away , SportCentrum can be reached quickly and easily.
